Who we are
We are Sunshine Coast School Sport, a part of Queensland Representative School Sport. Our job is to manage the representative school sport program within our Sunshine Coast area. Since we started in 1988, we have been one of 12 regional sporting offices in Queensland.
We proudly send teams to over 53 state championships.
Our region has about 155 primary and secondary schools in it, providing over 72000 students a chance to take part in the representative school sport program.
To keep things organised, our region is split into 10 local districts.
Each district helps run the program locally and holds trials to pick the best athletes for their teams. These teams then come and compete at our regional trials. Districts also provide ways for students to join in certain sports events if there are no trials in their area.
What we do
We are a committed team in the Department of Education, focused on improving the well-being of young people through sports. Our goal is to help students grow into valuable members of their schools and communities by supporting their physical, mental, and emotional development.
In our office, we work to create new learning opportunities through a thorough school sports program. These programs give students a chance to participate in sports while ensuring a safe, inclusive, and structured environment. Here, they can build self-esteem, understand teamwork, and develop positive attitudes towards competition.
The skills gained from our programs significantly enhance students' engagement in their school community. By taking part in our activities, students not only boost their fitness but also acquire important life skills that aid their personal and academic success.
Our office is involved in many activities to reach these objectives. We host regional sports trials to find talented students for state competitions. We also organise and manage selected state championships for Queensland Representative School Sport and support districts in their local sports programs.
Additionally, our regional school sports initiatives provide teachers with opportunities to improve their coaching and team management skills. We value ongoing professional development and offer teachers a chance to advance in a structured way.
Join us in our effort to empower young people through sports and help them become well-rounded members of their schools and communities. Together, we can create a positive impact on their lives and build a brighter future.
What does the program do for participating students?
This program allows students to represent their school, district, region, and state. The positives greatly outweigh any costs. Eligible students can join elite sports competitions that foster personal growth and create a safe, supportive atmosphere for their development.
Who can be involved in the program?
To take part in the program, keep in mind that only students from affiliated school campuses can participate. The good news is that nearly all private and independent schools, along with all state schools, are affiliated. A full list of these campuses is available on our website.
