Who we are

We are  Sunshine Coast School Sport, a sub-committee of Queensland Representative School Sport. Our main role is to oversee all representative school sport activities in the Sunshine Coast geographic region. Since our establishment in 1988, we have been one of the 12 QRSS sport sub-committees in Queensland.

We take pride in sending representative teams to a total of 53 state championships. This includes 21 championships for students aged 10-12 years and 32 championships for students aged 13-19 years.

Our region is home to approximately 155 primary and secondary state and non-state school campuses. This provides a wonderful opportunity for over 72,000 students to participate in the representative school sport program.

To ensure smooth administration of the program, our region is divided into 10 local districts.

Each district plays a crucial role in administering the program at the local level. They conduct district level trials to select the best athletes for their district teams.

These teams then have the opportunity to compete at the region level sport trials. Additionally, districts also offer pathways for eligible students to participate in certain sports where no trial is conducted in that district.

What we do

We are a dedicated unit within the Department of Education, working tirelessly to enhance the overall well-being of young individuals through the power of sport. Our mission is to empower students to become valuable members of their school and wider communities by fostering their physical, intellectual, and emotional growth.

At our office, we strive to create new avenues for learning through our comprehensive school sports program. These programs not only offer students the chance to engage in sport but also provides them with a secure, inclusive, and disciplined environment. Within this environment, students can develop their self-esteem, learn the importance of teamwork, and cultivate positive attitudes and behaviours towards competition in sports.

The positive attributes gained through our programs have a profound impact on students' involvement in their school community. By participating in our initiatives, students not only improve their physical fitness but also develop essential life skills that contribute to their personal and academic growth.

Our office is actively involved in various activities to achieve these goals. We organize region-level sport trials to identify talented students who can represent our region at state-level competitions. Additionally, we organise and run selected Queensland Representative School Sport state championships.  We also support our districts as they organise their district-level sports programs.

Moreover, our region-level school sports initiatives offer valuable opportunities for teachers to enhance their coaching and team management skills. We believe in continuous professional development and provide teachers with the chance to grow within a sequential system.

Join us in our mission to empower young individuals through sport and help them become well-rounded members of their school and broader communities. Together, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of these students and create a brighter future for all.

What does the program do for participating students?

Beyond the opportunity to represent their school, district, region, and state, this program offers numerous positives that far outweigh any costs. Eligible students get to engage in elite representative sporting competitions, which not only promote personal growth but also provide a safe and supportive environment for their development.

Who can be involved in the program?

If you're looking to participate in the program, keep in mind that only students attending affiliated school campuses are eligible. Luckily, most private and independent schools, as well as all state schools, are affiliated. You can find a detailed list of these campuses on our website.
